Some Food and Some Vacation

Today was the street market in Piazza Bausan. Since I had a noon meeting away from campus, I didn't feel too bad about heading to the market before heading to work. I only bought a few things today, but I most of them were bought in bulk. A kilo of oranges, sort of part blood orange, a ten of artichokes (a different variety than my previous ones, small but starting to head to globe in shape, and with insignificant spines... see below!):

Also a pair of yellow apples, and a giant purple cauliflower. I don't know if these pictures do it justice, since the thing weighed 3 kilos. Seriously, we are talking about 7 pounds of cauliflower. It was heavy to get home!

Now, the reason I bought oranges (other than that the citrus is really fabulous in Italy) is that one of my birthday gifts was a juicer! We used to have a fresh orange juice vending machine in our lab, but it's been taken away for repairs and hasn't returned... So now I can make my OJ at home!

The prices on all the veggies are good right now because a lot of them have superficial weather damage, like those artichokes... but everything tastes fine!

And now, some more vacation photos. If I keep posting a few at a time, maybe I will get somewhere? I will try to wrap up the Disneyland Paris photos in the next day or two. How about today I give you a smattering of remaining Disneyland Park pictures, and tomorrow will be the Studios pics?

One of my favorite rides was the Phantom Manor. Much of the same stuff as the Haunted Mansion, but decked out Western style. You know, the French go crazy for the Wild West and cowboys and all that. And it works on the whole for the Phantom Manor. It's set up as a lone house on a hill. The winter foliage adds to the bleakness

You walk past creepy stuff in the cue, like this gazebo set for tea for one. Music drifts out as you walk past.

Inside, there's a lot in common with other Haunted Mansion attractions. The stretching room is particularly deep and scary. A lot of it is Western-fied. This guy stands at the beginning of a ghost town scene:

All in all, a familiar but creepy ride.

How about "it's a small world"? It's got a lot of the same scenes, with the addition of a North America room. (Keeping with the French Western addiction, more than half of the USA scene is desert and cowboys.) They also have the hidden Disney movie characters, like Ariel from The Little Mermaid.

I am sure I didn't see all of them, but I also saw the Genie and Aladdin and Mulan. One of the weird things was how many ducks were in the parks, with small world being one of their favorite hideouts. I am not sure how they keep them outside, since the attraction would be easy to invade through the entrances...

The carrousel in Fantasyland had spectacular armored horses.

Dragon Horse

Aladdin doesn't have his own ride, but he does have this really cute walk through of animated dioramas.

The highlight to visiting the Nautilus was watching the squid attack the ship through the porthole.

And I just like the little green aliens!
