Continuing vacation photos ahead... Above Rüdesheim there's a small forest preserve where you can walk around. We took a package ticket, where you gondola up to the preserve, walk through for an hour or so, and take a chair lift down the other side, where you catch a boat back to Rudesheim.
At the gondola side of the walk, there's a giant statue of Germania as part of the Niederwald Monument, celebrating the unification of Germany.
The views over the Rhine and the Nahe Rivers were great.
We split into "fast" and "slow" parties after a bit of the walk. In the fast party we took a detour to a few old buildings. This was a summer home for a bishop or something like that. Great views!
This was an old cave. I am not sure the purpose, but the hut in the background was the entrance to the cave, and this was the exit. It's not a straight tunnel, so when you get to the middle it is completely dark. My camera screen was not bright enough to guide me!
We had quick drinks at the end of the walk at the hotel at the top of the mountain, then took the chairlift down to Assmannshausen. The ride was very pleasant, again in the gentle breeze with the clouds...
More to follow...
