London Part 1!

London is a great city! The Christmas decorations were out in full swing when I arrived. I met up with Miranda in Trafalgar Square, where there were carolers alongside the Christmas tree from Norway.

Covent Garden was just awash in glitter, giant ornaments, and lights.

The evening activity for my arrival was to check out the National Portrait Gallery. All the national museums in London are free, which is awesome.

Miranda loved this statue of Victoria and Albert in Norman costumes. Overall, I quite like the Portrait Gallery. It's a good idea. While not all the portraits are compelling, they are at least interesting. If you are in London, it is an easy stop, and I would put it on the list. Bonus, late hours on Friday!

Apartment!

We had dinner at Fire & Stone, where I had a Thai pizza that was quite good and spicy. Then we headed back to Miranda's. Her apartment is in Belsize Park, a really nice neighborhood. It's a small place but quite cute!

  1. I love the tree in Trafalgar Square. I remember going up to London to see it for the first time and I was so pleased that it had white lights. For some reason, I'd expected coloured lights and I'm not overly keen on them. But there was this huge, beautiful tree all decked out in white lights, it was wonderful. I'm sorry to see that they had those blue-tinged lights this year but I think they're becoming the norm.

But anyway, I'm glad that you got to see Covent Garden. That's my favourite part of London and at Christmas, there's nowhere better in the entire city. The December before last, my mum and I booked into London serviced apartments and we had a weekend in Covent Garden. It was one of the few times where I came home from London feeling relaxed. Much as I love the city, it's so fast paced that it can knock the stuffing out of you. (The fact that the Covent Garden weekend didn't might have had something to do with the vast amounts of Mulled Wine that we were putting away but I'd like to think that the atmosphere had something to do with it) That's what I like best about it; the atmosphere. It's busy but in a friendly kind of way. Not the solid-wall-of-people kind of busy that you might encounter in Oxford Street.
